Some people get anxious when it comes to making a dental appointment, even if it’s just for a simple cleaning. Many will go for years without visiting the dentist resulting in major problems to their teeth and gums, while others have trouble tolerating dental treatment because of a severe gag reflex or a physical disabilities.
If you are one of those people who avoid the dentist because of dental anxiety, fear, or disability, then sedation dentistry may be right for you!
Our Doctors Provide 4 Levels of Sedation Dentistry:
1. Very Light – Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas)
2. Light – An Oral Sedative (a pill)
3. Moderate – A Combination of Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedative
4. Deep – IV Intravenous
If you are someone who is truly desperate to get the dental care you need, our sedation dentistry services will allow you to virtually sleep through your dental visit with little to no recollection of the procedure itself. It is a real breakthrough and we offer both oral and IV intravenous techniques here at our San Jose dentist office.
Oral Sedation Dentistry
For most people who have a moderate amount of dental anxiety and fear, oral sedation will be enough to allow them to make it through their dental visit. It is the most common method that is safe and is as easy as swallowing a pill. The overall effect is not as profound as IV intravenous sedation, but for most people, there will be enough relaxation with little recollection of the dental procedure itself.
IV Sedation Dentistry
Intravenous dental sedation is administered directly into the blood stream by an on-site certified anesthesiologist. With IV sedation, the patient will achieve a deeper state of relaxation than with oral sedation, and will virtually sleep through their procedure. If at any time the patient is not relaxed enough, the anesthesiologist can administer more medication which will have an immediate effect.
If you or someone you know is terrified of the dentist, we can help!
